Don’t miss the award-winning Ukulele Man by Marcel Cole!

The Ukulele Man is the story of the Northern English wartime entertainer and ukulele legend George Formby. With a toothy grin and a turnip face, he sang cheeky songs and won the hearts of the nation. From the youngest ever jockey to England’s most popular film star, and from a troubled marriage to a premature death, George Formby touched the hearts of millions. When he died, more than 150,000 people lined the route of his funeral procession. It remains the largest funeral there has ever been for a show business personality… so it’s turned out nice again, hasn’t it?

‘I’m the Ukulele Man’ is the title song and a very fitting way to start the show!
Spoiler: you will be encouraged to sing along throughout the show! Don’t worry though, there won’t be any audience solos.

Although banned by the BBC in 1933 because of ‘Mr Formby’s preoccupation with his musical instrument, which for him,
represents a substitute phallus’, you will be treated to the full uncensored version!

About the artist

Marcel’s performance training began at the age of nine at the Kim Harvey School of Dance in Canberra, where he studied ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop and contemporary dance. He went on to study ballet and contemporary dance at the New Zealand School of Dance in Wellington, NZ, but then he took a different turn. Having discovered the wonderful world of cabaret and after studying mime and clown in London and Paris, Marcel has since hit the variety scene and is thrilled to present this show, developed here at the Tuggeranong Arts Centre
